How to get a tax clearance certificate in Nepal

A tax clearance certificate shows that tax obligations are settled up to a given fiscal year. Tenders, loans and renewals commonly ask for one.

Settle these first

  • Income tax return filed for the relevant year
  • Audit completed
  • Outstanding tax and any penalties paid
  • VAT returns up to date if registered

Applying before these are done will not produce a certificate.

The process

  1. Get the accounts straightFile returns and clear outstanding tax through your auditor.
  2. Prepare the applicationState clearly which fiscal year and what the certificate is for.
  3. SubmitFile the application with supporting documents at your taxpayer service office.
  4. VerificationThe office checks its records and issues the certificate.
