What documents are needed for PAN registration?

Last updated: 2026-09-04 Official sources: Inland Revenue Department

After incorporation a company registers for a Permanent Account Number at the Inland Revenue Office. Without a PAN you cannot open a bank account, issue invoices or file returns.

Documents needed

  • Copy of the certificate of incorporation
  • Copies of the memorandum and articles
  • Board minute authorising PAN registration
  • Citizenship copies for directors and shareholders
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Proof of office address — rent agreement or ownership document
  • The Inland Revenue Office registration form

PAN versus VAT

Every registered company must have a PAN. VAT applies only once turnover crosses the threshold or for certain listed businesses. VAT registration brings a continuing return-filing obligation, so do not register for it unless you need to.

Worth knowing

  • If the company name or address changes, the PAN record must be updated too
  • Once registered, returns are due even in a year with no trading
  • Thresholds and rates change — confirm the current position with the office or your auditor

Please note

Government procedures, fees and deadlines change. This guide was updated on the date shown above. Confirm the current position with the relevant office or your auditor before acting on it. This is not legal advice.
